I'm trying to think with you about your question. Good art is good because of the process by which it is made. In other words, I think we need to look more closely at the process than the result. The result matters to me; my love of art museums attests to that. The art I like I call "good." But when you as a philosopher, ask what makes art good, I look to the process, guided by your exploration about the piece you are working on starting with Payne's grey. You said it felt uncomfortable and freeing. I associate those two words with some of my favourite art--both how the artist said it was made (from watching documentaries about artists whose work interests me) and how it feels when I see it. I *love* art that feels uncomfortable yet freeing *to me when I encounter it*. I wonder what would happen if we judged art by the consciousness that was brought to its making, the self-awareness, the quality of the encounter with the space, the materials, the emerging work itself.
I think good art is sth that when you see it in an exhibition, has the potential to attract people to talk about it, so that the artist can see strangers' perspective about their art.
You'll see my pieces, when I finish them. Thanks for your encouragement, Steve. Like English, that has A1-C2, it's the same for any other European languages.
Good art is what the viewer feels is good art for them. Very subjective. And so art is life, life is art. The word art means to live. SO I am art and you are art. What connot be good about that? There are no riles to follow in art, hence also there is no good nor bad art. Things only have value when you give it to them. Art is here to calm the disturbed and disturb the calm, it is said. And art is what you are taught in art school is also a saying. They all are just sayings . Art to you is not what art is to me, so if you ask ME, my Soul what GOOD art is, I must say that varies from day to day! <3 I winder what YOUR veiw on the matter is SLART! Good question by the way. opens up a great discussion, if there is any! :) much love - SÏRÏ the ArtISt
The process by which it is made.
The process has to be good? Please elaborate.
