Before we begin. If you missed my last post, it’s here:
Author’s Note: Every Saturday, I share my art practice over the past 7 days. I'm fascinated by artistic practice – it's not just about creating art but the entire process. From influences and ideas to materials and skills, each artist's unique approach shapes their work, making it more than a finished piece. Just imagine having a weekly update from your favourite living artist. How cool would that be?
If this piece is too long for email, you can read it here in Substack. Or download the app.
This week in the world of SLART.
An honourable mention
In one of the open calls I applied for, I got a lovely honourable mention.
I checked my email casually on my phone the other day and saw this on the Art Cabbage website:
…And I got a certificate!
We have to take the wins, however small, then keep moving forward! I’m grateful. You never know who will see your work!

Lessons from the Crypt
Not much movement other than asking to catch up with my curator about the next steps. I learned a valuable lesson though, that it’s so easy for projects to slip when you have other commitments. Simple? Yes. Easy to forget, also yes. Alongside that insight, I’ve realised that it’s super easy to get your focus back into a project. Last night, I was reflecting on the week and I was feeling bad about not doing much, then I starting putting my focus on what I can focus on next in the project. Even the act of this got my mind back into the game.
In short:
There’s no point feeling bad about not doing something as it’s a waste of focus, just focus on the task at hand for 10 minutes and get your head back into it!
That is all for this week!
Thanks for reading.
Have a great week!
