The Weekly Art Practice of an Outsider Artist known as SLART
The Outsider Artist known as SLART: Weekly art practice number 59.
š NEW HERE? WHAT'S THIS WEEKLY ART PRACTICE ALL ABOUT?
Every Saturday, I share my weekly art practice journey. I'm captivated by the process ā not just the finished pieces but everything from influences to materials. It's like getting a behind-the-scenes peek at an artist's world.
[If this masterpiece is too long for email, you can read Cream of the Crop in Substack. Or download the Substack app.]

ā³ Memento Vivere Art Exhibition Update (Coming in September 2025)
I have received a small order of 250 black and white flyers, Iām keeping it rough looking; itās printed on A5 80gsm paper. I donāt see the point in printing in glossy flyer material. Itās meant to look rough and cool.
Iām going to use this section as a to-do list for the coming week.
Write private view guest list (include ādream' guestsā of people I admire).
Prepare for my patronage meeting on Thursday.
Scheule emails to art orgs about the exhibition.
Iāll keep it at that for now. I have a week off from the day job, but the new home is our priority. If I can get some studio time, thatāll be a lovely bonus!

šØ This Week in My Art Studio
A part of me wants to rent a skip, throw it all out, and start again. Would that be a good idea? In the most positive way, I want a blank canvas, metaphorically speaking.
I havenāt been in my studio this week, but we are moving house on Saturday, and as I keep saying, Iāll be much closer, so expect some updates next week.

Petition to remove AI gen images from Substack
Yes, I know I am a techie/AI nerd and this seems contradictory. But last and foremost, I am an artist. I cringe when people use AI-generated images for their posts. Iām not against AI-generated images, I just think itās a lazy and unattractive way to decorate your posts when you can use Upsplash or as an artist, you can use their images (or even take a photo yourself). So Iāve set up a petition on Substack to see who agrees with me, and then I will send this directly to Substack.

ās latest post really helped me gain new perspectives in art creation. Thank you.āI defined a 21st century artist as an independent artist who is working at the cutting edge of both process and distribution and Essentially, they're making cool, edgy stuff and getting their stuff seen in cool, edgy ways. And they do this by embracing the natural limitations of their life circumstances and their arts circumstances.ā
