This is excellent! I'm a big believer that our actions can feed into and affirm our thoughts and vice versa - thank you for this!

Im glad you enjoyed it Ava May! Yes, there’s a real subtlety to it I find, I’ve been reading about the law of attraction since The Secret and struggled with it for years. Now I’ve seen that action creates knowing, but the subtlety lies in a combination of right action and some kind of direction towards what you truly want. I spent years searching and came back to where I stared as a child: Art!

Wowww. I don’t believe my name is Nicole, I KNOW it is. I don’t believe I am a poet and lyricist, I just AM! I’ve been feeling ‘stuck’ and someone asked me: what do you want? Well, hell - I don’t know?! Every time I get what I thought I wanted I quickly realize I was gravely mistaken. Plus, how do I know if I uniquely want it or if it’s merely mimetic desire? And if I truly do want ‘it’ (currently deliberating on starting a podcast while simultaneously feeling like a walking cliche…I mean, who isn’t podcasting?!) how do I make sure I’m truly adding value and not just adding to the noise or grandstanding. And further, am I but “a juicy piece of (consenting) meat to distract the watchdog of the (viewer/listener’s) mind” - as McLuhan puts it - so the machine can continue to grab people by the throat as they(we) mindlessly scroll their(our) lives away?

Whew! Sorry. And thank you. One thing I do know: I’m compelled to create. It’s the whole, “Know your audience, what their pain is, how to solve it, get them to know/like/trust you, rinse and repeat,” part that seems to be stifling the process. Thanks for allowing me to process here in your comments. I’d love any feedback on my angst that comes to your awareness. ;)

Dearest SLART, this phrase has been ringing in my head! (Little did I realize that Ivanka Trump attributed it to Emma Watson. Oy vey.) What you say is so important for us each to remember.

For me, I like knowing that it is ancient (10 CE); I have more trust in things that've stood the test of time. And that the person who said it is Rabbi Hillel: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillel_the_Elder

What he said is originally is actually even more to the point you're making, I think: If I am not for myself, who will be for me?" I love your work and you and send you wellness abounding.

And you are so right about the difference between believing and knowing. As a philosopher and linguist, this isn't semantics only. The felt difference you talk about is exactly right. If I know something, it feels and IS very very different from my believing it. I trust my knowing more than my belief.

Thank you for the beautiful comment, Beth.

Ah yes, I read that thing about Ivanka, I’ll say not more 😂

Funnily enough, I did post the original quote by Rabbi Hillel but I felt like simplifying it. I’m going to edit it now…

“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”

Rabbi Hillel

Thank you thank you thank you
