...has Dame Tracey Emin seen the Tin of Beans yet?
It's the latest instalment of the Weekly Art Practice, issue 66 | The Outsider Artist known as SLART.
NEW HERE? WHAT'S THIS WEEKLY ART PRACTICE ALL ABOUT?
Every Saturday (usually it’s Saturday, I lost track of time and didn’t post it yesterday), I share my art practice. I'm captivated by the process – not just the finished pieces but everything from influences to materials. It's like getting a behind-the-scenes peek at an artist's world.
[If this masterpiece is too long for email, you can read Cream of the Crop in Substack. Or download the Substack app.]
Last week, I thought it was clever to send the wonderful expressionist and 90s YBA Tracey Emin a selection of household food goods to get her attention, so she’ll attend my art opening this September.
After I posted the goods, I realised she was in Florence for her Sex and Solitude opening (it looks great!). So it’ll be interesting to see which order she opens the parcels, as the messages were in order as seen above. It’ll be like a crap fortune cookie but instead of having your fortune told, you’re getting a selection of tinned goods and bad puns from an artist desperate for attention! It appears she is still in Florence but you’ll be the first to know when I hear something.
Next up, the Art BRUT show page is now online.
Art BRUT is my curated exhibition of Swindon and Wiltshire Outsider Artists, which will be displayed ‘on the inside’ at Museum and Art Swindon from 16-29th June 2025, part of Swindon Arts Fringe. I feel elated to be part of this grass-roots cultural event and blessed to be curating in the town’s official museum. And you know what? All I did was ask, and they said yes. No inside connections, no big proposals, just asking the question and having a chat with someone made it a reality. I will say this until I’m blue in the face “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”, a previous version of me would not have asked as I would have thought I wasn’t worthy.
So, Swindon Arts Fringe (SWAF) was created by the amazing people at my studio, Artsite, they don’t get the credit they deserve so please big them up for me and share their posts on Instagram.
Next up, the global zine project is still moving along, we had some teething problems, but it’s moving. Thanks to
and for holding the fort. More on this next week. For those who don’t know about this project, read this previous post…ZINE UPDATE: The Collective Imprint - A Global Zine Capturing Analog Creativity in 2025

I’ve been having a studio declutter, I’m not the most tidy of people, but I notice it when it gets to a certain point and I can’t paint!
A couple of recycling centre (it’s no longer a tip or a dump) runs later and it’s already feeling more specious. You’ll be excited to see the finished space, I’m sure!
That is all for now, take care everyone.
Memento Vivere: Remember to Live.
Have a great Sunday.
Best wishes,
SLART.
P.S. One more thing, could you please leave a 4 or 5-star (Hopefully not 1,2 or 3) review on my SLART Google page? I'm looking to enhance my online presence as an artist, and this small, straightforward, and swift action would be immensely beneficial. Cheers!
P.P.S. Massive thanks to the amazing Gary Mansfield and his brilliant Ministry of Arts podcast! I stumbled across it on Instagram and was instantly hooked — buzzing to say I’ll be a guest on it soon, we’re chatting on Monday 21st April. Can’t wait!!! (I’ve listened to about 20 episodes in the past week, check it out).
Wildly thrilled you'll be on Gary's podcast AND are curating at Swindon!!! Definitely you are proof positive of the value and valor of asking!
And how did you know I was sitting here in Virginia wondering WHAT Tracey Emin had thought of your invitation(s)? Keep us posted!
